This paper addresses a new approach to structural interpretation of 3-D seismic data. It is complemented by a second paper which has been submitted to Geophysics dealing with the technical aspects of structure-oriented filtering. The method and workflow should be viewed against a background of recent changes in the working environment for seismic interpretation. For instance, there has been constant pressure to reduce turnaround time or at least to quickly come up with preliminary results that can influence investment decisions.
