Former SEG President John Northwood recently performed a survey for the Japex Geoscience Institute and his report included these provocative sentences: “There is still a distressing amount of seismic interpretation being done with a yellow pencil and a ruler even when a workstation is down the hall. The author would estimate that at least 50 percent and possibly as much as 90 percent of 2-D seismic interpretation is still being done in this manner.”
