This article discusses personal computers as geophysical workstations for processing seismic and related data on a medium-to-large seismic computing facility. Possible workstation tasks include text processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, input and output of seismic processing jobs, displays, data analysis and advanced modeling programs. With the increased computing power, graphics, networking capabilities and data storage of currently available PCs, geophysical users can perform the functions of much more expensive workstations for less than $10 000.
