Abstract

Iran is one of the largest oil and natural gas producing and exporting nations on the global scene, yet many aspects of its petroleum industry have been unreported in the West since 1979. Iran ranks second in the world in natural gas reserves and fourth in proven crude oil reserves. Iran also ranks sixth in oil production and third in oil export among all nations. In this paper, we briefly review the history and current state of the petroleum industry in Iran and the opportunities for international collaborations.
