Time-lapse seismic is commonly used today for production monitoring worldwide. However, the experience in southeast Asian clastic reservoirs is more limited than in regions such as the North Sea or Gulf of Mexico. The regional structural complications associated with thin-stacked sands and faulting pose interpretation challenges in addition to unusual time-lapse signals, complex commingled production data, and seismic data holes due to platforms. An integrated approach is presented to use 4D seismic in stacked reservoirs to overcome these challenges. Several successful examples from northwest Borneo (Brunei Darussalam) are presented in which robust 4D signals have been interpreted and used for derisking near-field exploration wells, identifying infill drilling targets, changing well trajectories, supporting hydrocarbon maturation by identifying undrained hydrocarbons, and assessing the quality of static and dynamic reservoir models.
