The July–August issue of Geophysics features a special section on “Advances in near-surface electromagnetic induction geophysics” in addition to the journal's usual bushel of regular submissions. We do not normally have many papers on mining, so I am pleased to see that two of the 12 papers recommended by the editors for this column are in mining geophysics. These two papers apply clustering and self-organizing algorithms to the challenging problems of analyzing large amount of geophysical data. The following are a few brief samples from the July–August issue. I invite you to browse through the entire issue for the latest developments in exploration geophysics.
