Abstract
The short course “Opportunities, Challenges, and Technologies for Optimizing Shale Gas Development,” taught by Mark Zoback of Stanford University, was held 5–6 April 2012 at the Geosciences International Conference Centre, China University of Geosciences, in Beijing. Gary Liu, chief representative of SEG China, and Jie Zhang, chairman of the SEG China Advisory Committee, presided at the opening. The 176 attendees came mainly from research institutes/universities, CNPC, SINOPEC, CNOOC/COSL, Baker Hughes, other international oil and services companies, and several local medium/small-sized companies. Three members of the SEG China Advisory Committee attended the course as did Chang Xu, director of Earth Resources Bureau, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
