Abstract

Bob Hardage, the current SEG president, was in mid-career as a researcher with Phillips Petroleum when TLE began publication in 1982. He was one of its first authors from industry (the 1983 article “A new direction in exploration seismology is down”). He has subsequently worked for a service company and in academia, has served on several executive committees (including two years as SEG editor) and as chairman of the Technical Program Committee (twice), has continued to write regularly for TLE and served as a guest editor for a special section, and will be the first person to serve as immediate past president when SEG switches to its new governance structure after the upcoming annual meeting. This wide-ranging career and Society experience make him well qualified to comment on the past, present, and future of TLE and SEG. He did so via an interview with Dean Clark, TLE Editor.
