Abstract

Exploration and development projects in salt environments rely on accurate knowledge of the salt location for successful well placement and field development. In both salt dome and subsalt environments, the salt often provides an updip limit to the extent of the reservoir and as such is important for determining potential hydrocarbon volumes and well placement. Knowledge of the salt flank or base salt location is also important for minimizing the risks of drilling in and near salt.
