U.S. production of natural gas is expected to increase from 20 TCF/year in 2008 to approximately 23 TCF by 2035, with most of this growth projected to come from expansion of shale gas plays (Energy Information Administration, Annual Energy Outlook, 2010). The bulk of the production, however, will continue to come from sandstone reservoirs, with tight gas sandstones contributing about 19% of the total daily production (Oil and Gas Investor, 2005).
