Abstract

This near-surface special section highlights radar. As the title suggests, many of the studies in this section have deep-seated roots in seismic methods and benefit from creative and innovative analysis and interpretation approaches initially developed and exploited by the seismic community. Over the last decade, similarities between ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and seismic reflection imaging have proven strong enticements for extending seismic signal processing and wavelet analysis techniques into the GPR domain. Analogous to seismic reflections, relationships between material properties and various attributes of a reflected EM wavelet continue to be proposed, discussed, and evaluated.
