Abstract

Since the recording of the first 3D seismic survey in 1967 by Exxon, the industry has witnessed an increasingly rapid expansion in the application of this technology. The geophysical community has amply demonstrated the value of 3D seismic technologies, which are presently applied to the whole range of problems from exploration to development and exploitation. Integration of multidisciplinary knowledge and data with 3D seismic has provided valuable information for detailed reservoir characterization, planning and carrying out enhanced oil recovery strategies, and monitoring the changes in reservoirs as they are developed and produced. India is no exception. This paper is an attempt to chronicle the growth of 3D seismic technology in India from its incorporation to the present.
