The momentum toward true “globalization” of SEG which had built throughout the 1990s accelerated at the turn of the century. Two changes of great significance were enacted in the first two years: a new category of global membership was approved in 2000 and, a year later, the International Affairs Committee was completely restructured and subsequently renamed the Global Affairs Committee. The GAC, in this new incarnation, immediately became SEG's largest and most active committee.
