Almost 20 years ago I began my first Gulf of Mexico interpretation project and I wondered which of the following warnings I'd heard might be true:

“The Gulf is a mature province—most of the oil and gas in the basin has already been discovered.”

“The real action is in international exploration—nothing exciting ever happens in the Gulf.”

“The newest geophysical technology makes its way into the Gulf only after having been proven elsewhere.”

“The Gulf is a career dead end—once you're in, you'll never get out.”

Needless to say, after almost 20 years of working in the Gulf of Mexico...
