The TLE Forum on “Future Computing,” held at the 2002 SEG Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, was clearly a success. The Tuesday afternoon session had to compete for an audience against a dozen technical sessions and the exhibition hall (including free coffee), yet the 300-seat room was full. Attendance is an important measure of success, but so is the quantity and quality of audience attention and participation. After a slow start (few will get up and ask a question in front of 300 really smart people), there was a lively question and answer session following the formal presentations.
