Dell chairman and CEO Michael Dell has designated CGG (Compagnie Générale de Géophysique) as a Dell Center for Research Excellence, citing the company's innovative use of technology in the field of seismic research for oil and gas exploration. Thus, a geophysical services company became the first corporate recipient of Dell's Center for Research Excellence award. All previous recipients had been academic institutions.
