Some of the papers in this issue deal with seismic sources. The strength of seismic sources is, of course, an important parameter for both environmental impact and geophysical quality. Just like miles and km, there are a couple of unit standards. In addition to that, a common practice is to measure sound energy on a logarithmic scale.

The SI unit of pressure is the pascal (Pa) which is newton (N) per m2. 1 bar is defined as 105 Pa which is approximately the average atmospheric pressure at sea level.
