Since the discovery of the Girassol and Dalia Fields in 1996, the Angolan slope basin has become a hotspot for deepwater exploration. The basin's Tertiary section, characterized by an extensive system of turbidite-generated channels that traverse the paleo-Congo submarine fan, has proven highly prospective, as demonstrated by large discoveries in Miocene and Oligocene reservoirs in Blocks 14, 15, 17, and 18.
