The oil industry acquires enormous volumes of 3-D data over some of the most prospective hydrocarbon provinces in the world. Astonishingly, most of these data, perhaps 95%, are never interpreted, although oil companies spent millions of dollars to acquire the data. There is simply too much data for the geoscience staff to analyze. Seismic wiggles that catch the eye's attention are not necessarily the right ones; they are just the visible ones.
