Growing seismicity in Europe’s largest gas field in the northeastern Netherlands has caused widespread building damage, social concern, and political upheaval. This has led to a massive research effort, elaborate damage‐handling procedures, delayed building reinforcement, and various lawsuits against the state. Through successive government decisions, annual gas extraction has been decreasing since 2014, with 55‐yr‐old field operations now to be concluded in 2030.
