Paul Andrew Spudich died 21 July 2019 at his home in Bernal Heights, San Francisco, from hypercapnic respiratory failure. We have lost an outstanding scientist, a generous colleague, and a witty, loyal friend.

Paul was born in 1950, the son of Andrew and Anne Spudich, and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his father worked in the steel mills.
