ABSTRACT
The application of recovering ground displacements from strong‐motion recordings is limited due to the complexity in analyzing the baseline shifts in recorded accelerograms. A physics‐based baseline correction procedure is briefly introduced. Statistical measurements as well as plotted recovered displacements are taken into consideration to evaluate the quality of the recovery. Forty‐two strong‐motion stations in the selected region of Hualien County which recorded the 6 February 2018 6.2 Hualien earthquake are applied to recover the ground movement. The results indicate that the Milun fault could have experienced a left‐lateral movement. Ground displacements measured by continuous Global Positioning System (GPS) stations and campaign GPS stations are also presented. The results from the proposed method are consistent with that obtained via geodetic surveying.
