Every so often, a seismologist cannot hold in his or her enthusiasm and admits during a media interview their belief that “earthquakes are fun” or that a recent event “was exciting.” Among seismologists, we know that sizeable earthquakes provide interesting opportunities to analyze unique datasets; hence, the temptation arises to talk about the latest event as positive.
