The 86th annual meeting of the Eastern Section of the Seismological Society of America (ES‐SSA) was held on 2–4 November 2014 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. The meeting was hosted by the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences of the College of Charleston. The field trip, Earthquake Impacts on Historical Architecture in Charleston, South Carolina, involved 22 participants and examined the effects of both the 1886 M 7 Summerville, South Carolina, earthquake and the 2011 M 5.8 Mineral, Virginia, earthquake on historic buildings in downtown Charleston.
