My goal is to generate synthetic strong ground motions that are sufficiently realistic to be useful for engineering applications. The composite source model (CSM) uses a kinematic source model for rupture on a finite fault. This source is propagated to the station using a flat‐layered velocity model, scattering, and attenuation that can be measured from independent seismological observations. A key objective is to reproduce the wave propagation within the constraints of the measured velocity and Q structure.
