I regret needing to bid farewell as editor‐in‐chief of Seismological Research Letters (SRL). I accepted editorial leadership in our community with enthusiasm and anticipation, I have enjoyed the challenge, and I had planned to serve a much longer term. But the dean at University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill, asked me to take responsibility as chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences, and I have been informed (warned) by wise council that it would be foolish for me to try to do both of these important jobs at the same time.
