The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) and the Seismological Society of America (SSA) have announced the 10th year of the IRIS/SSA Distinguished Lectureship. This jointly-sponsored annual national lecture series in seismology provides dynamic speakers presenting nontechnical talks to general public audiences.
The 2012 IRIS/SSA Distinguished Lecturers are Gregory Beroza and Miaki Ishii.
Beroza is the Wayne Loel Professor and chair of the Department of Geophysics at Stanford University’s School of Earth Sciences. His talk is entitled: “The Tortoise and the Hare: Slow vs. Fast Earthquakes.”
