The paper by Bommer et al. in Seismological Research Letters 81 (5) (hereafter Bommer et al. 2010) raises the important issue of selection criteria for ground-motion prediction equations (GMPEs) in seismic hazard analysis. Objective selection criteria are needed since many GMPEs have been developed in recent years.
