SSA member Roger Borcherdt, a seismologist at the U.S. Geological Survey, recently was honored with the U.S. Department of Interior's Distinguished Service Award, the department's highest honor.
SSA member Austin Holland recently moved from the University of Arizona to the Oklahoma Geological Survey.
SSA member Leon Knopoff, widely regarded as the father of theoretical seismology, died 20 January 2011 at his home in Sherman Oaks, California. He was 85. Knopoff had been at the University of California Los Angeles since 1949. A memorial tribute will be published in a future issue of SRL.
