A 16-station strong-motion seismic monitoring network covering metropolitan Izmir and the surrounding region was established in July 2008. The seismic network was installed as a cooperative effort involving the Earthquake Research and Implementation Center (ERIC-DAUM) of Dokuz Eylül University (DEU, Izmir), the Earthquake Research Department (ERD) of the General Directorate of Disaster Affairs (GDDA, Ankara), the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, and the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement.
