In the last decade a number of large earthquakes have devastated the Asian continental region, including the 1998 MW 6.6 Afghanistan-Tajikistan, 1999 MW 7.6 Chi-Chi, 2001 MW 7.6 Gujarat, 2002 MW 6.1 Hindukush, 2004 MW 9.0 Sumatra-Andaman, 2005 MW 7.6 Kashmir, 2006 MW 6.3 Yogyakarta, and 2008 MW 7.9 Sichuan.
