The publications committee of the Seismological Society of America has adopted the following policy for BSSA and SRL: “Except where common practice in seismology dictates otherwise, units should follow the Système Internationale (SI). We strongly encourage authors to adopt SI units for seismic moment (N·m instead of dyne cm) and stress (MPa instead of bars) in order to develop an international standard.”
