At 2:48 a.m. local time (MDT; 08:48 UTC) on 6 August 2007, a major collapse occurred in the Crandall Canyon coal mine in east-central Utah. This collapse resulted in the deaths of six miners who were working underground in the area of the collapse. Ten days later, a much smaller collapse in this mine killed three rescue workers and injured six others (Stricklin 2007).
