SSA member Manuel G. Bonilla, a noted research geologist who mapped many of the Bay Area's seismic faults and played a key role in forestalling construction of a nuclear power plant near Bodega Bay, died 18 February 2006 at his home in Palo Alto. He was 85. During his career with the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Bonilla conducted field work in many nations, investigating at least 19 significant earthquakes and studying their effects.
