The increasing number of broadband telemetered seismic stations installed recently in Spain makes it possible to provide seismic parameters beyond location and magnitude estimates, in near real-time. In particular, we describe new near-real-time calculations of the seismic moment tensor (SMT). The SMT provides information about the parameters inherent to the physical process at the source. A rapid SMT determination thus provides an estimate of the scalar seismic moment (M0) and therefore the moment magnitude (M); it also characterizes the type of faulting and fault orientation.
