September 2005 has been set for the release of STIX (Scientific and Technical Information Exchange) Fonts, a free, comprehensive set of special characters, mainly mathematical, that should be a significant breakthrough in scientific, technical, and medical publishing. The project will alleviate the need to assemble symbols from a variety of fonts. When posted to a Web site, documents using STIX Fonts will be properly rendered, regardless of the fonts installed on a specific computer.
