The legendary Tom Dibblee, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on the afternoon of 18 November 2004 at the age of 94. Over the past more than seventy years he saw and mapped more of California's geology than virtually anyone else. His geologic maps provide an unsurpassed geological overview of a given area, while at the same time contributing a wealth of reliable, locally important information.
