The Bulletin ofthe Seismological Society of America (BSSA) will publish a special issue on the 28 September 2004 Mw 6.0 Parkfield, California earthquake. This event occurred in one of the most densely instrumented regions due to the Parkfield Earthquake Prediction Experiment and provides us with an unprecedented view of a single significant strike-slip earthquake on the San Andreas Fault. Further, because the 2004 mainshock is only the latest in a sequence that goes back to the 1800's, this event allows us to consider the seismogenic behavior of a sequence of events.
