Bakun for questioning the New Madrid seismic zone (NMSZ) earthquake history shown in Figure 10 (top) in our paper in SRL 75:2, “Characteristic and Uncharacteristic Earthquakes as Possible Artifacts: Applications to the New Madrid and Wabash Seismic Zones.” The figure incorporates a higher level of seismicity than actually occurred near the NMSZ because it erroneously includes all data from Nuttli's central U.S. catalog (http://www.eas.slu.edu/Earthquake_Center), rather than the subset near the NMSZ.
