Walter Charles Marion (1910-2003), a long-time member of SSA and Senior Seismological Engineer at the University of California at Berkeley Seismographic Stations from 1953 to 1975, died at his home in Oakland on 31 December 2003. He was a great help to several generations of seismology students at Berkeley, and he played an important part in the upgrading of California seismology. A skillful watchmaker and ardent amateur astronomer, he worked on the chronometers of the Navy at Alameda before and during World War II.
