The Caltech/USGS Southern California catalog archived and distributed by the SCEDC does not account for local variations in the seismic velocity structure, which limits the accuracy of event locations. By applying various techniques in postprocessing of the data, researchers have been able to improve location accuracy, and some of these improved catalogs are available at the SCEDC.
