Following the Princeton Earth Physics Project (PEPP), a French initiative was started in 1994 with initial support from Institut Universitaire de France. Recording earthquakes, analyzing them, and sharing information for the same event all around the world is the foundation of the project and provided opportunities for investigations with social implications in environmental sciences and instrumental physics. Specific requirements for recording seismic signals within the French school structure have been identified and addressed.
