The Seismological Society of America (SSA) and the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) have selected two Distinguished Lecturers for the 2004 calendar year. The IRIS/SSA Distinguished Lecture Series program was jointly conceived by SSA and IRIS. 2002-2003 was its inaugural year, featuring talks by Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado (“Death and Construction: Earthquakes on an Urban Planet”) and Walter Mooney of USGS in Menlo Park, California (“The Discovery of the Earth: The Quest to Understand the Interior of Our Planet”).
