A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 (mbLg) occurred at 17:37 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) (1:37 Eastern Daylight Time, EDT) on 18 June 2002, about 20 km west of Evansville, Indiana (Figure 1). Minor damage, consisting of broken windows, cracked chimneys, and objects thrown from shelves, was reported from the epicentral area. The earthquake was felt in parts of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee. This short note summarizes the strong motions recorded by the Kentucky Seismic and Strong-Motion Network (KSSMN) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE) strong-motion stations.
