With advances in computer and information technology, client-server-architecture–based tools for accessing earthquake data through the Internet have become feasible. The SeisWeb tool was designed to investigate the feasibility of remote access to seismological databases through the Internet. The SeisWeb software was written in Java. It is platform-independent and will work through a Web browser or as a standalone application. The tool was designed to be database-oriented and to facilitate the most common basic functions of seismological processing. We hope that its simple graphical interface and easy access will make seismology more accessible to the public, increasing both interest and understanding....
