SSA member Nicholas N. Ambraseys was recently named an honorary member of EERI. Honorary membership is awarded to recognize members who have made sustained and outstanding contributions either in the field of earthquake engineering or to EERI and the pursuit of its objectives. Ambraseys received the award for his distinguished career in the field of engineering seismology. He has served as Professor at Imperial College of Science in London since 1970 and is currently Senior Research Professor. His main research areas are in soil dynamics, strong motion, long-term hazard assessment, and historical seismicity and tectonics.
