The William B. Joyner Memorial Fund has been established to promote education and to improve the use of seismology in earthquake engineering. The fund honors Bill Joyner, who died on 24 March after a long illness.

Bill's distinguished career with the U,S, Geological Survey started in 1964. In 1970 he began to focus on the interface between seismology and engineering, concentrating his research on the prediction of earthquake ground motion for engineering design.
