Dimitri Papastamatiou, a member of the Society for over 25 years and a prominent engineering seismologist in Europe, died in Athens on 4 July 2000, after a short illness. Dimitri graduated with a Ph.D. from the Imperial College Engineering Seismology Section in 1971 under the supervision of Professor N. N. Ambraseys. The subject of his thesis was “Ground Motion and Response of Earth Structures to Strong Earthquakes.”
