The moderately active southern Illinois basin spans parts of four states north of the New Madrid seismic zone. The planned special issue will be similar in scope and size to a 1997 issue on the same area (SRL 68:4). Geographically, the issue will emphasize (1) the concentration of large prehistoric earthquakes near Vincennes, indiana, and their enigmatic geologic controls, (2) the Wabash seismic zone, and (3) the distributed seismicity of eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, northwestern Kentucky, and southwestern Indiana.
