The earthquake in southern Georgia on December 27, 1976 occured about 1:57 a.m., EST. The hypocenter was located near 32.05° north latitude and 82.3° west longitude. Instrumental data indicate a magnitude of 3.5 to 3.7 with a focal depth of about 5-km. The maximum epicenteral intensity was V MM and the earthquake was felt over about 5,620 sq. km.
